Indore Local Centre of ISLE had organized a day long workshop titled “Lighting Trends & Technologies – Vision 2020”
at Hotel Fortune Landmark, Indore on 23rd April 2010. This National Workshop was organized as a part of Silver
Jubilee Celebrations of ISLE. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr Krishna Murari Moghe, the Mayor of Indore.
Mr Madhu Verma, Chairman Indore Development Authority was the guest of honour.
Mr Akhilesh Jain, Chairman Indore Local Centre, delivered the welcome speech and highlighted the purpose and idea behind organizing the workshop. Dr Avinash Kulkarni, President ISLE threw light on the aims, objectives and activities of ISLE and talked about the new initiatives including distant education on lighting through a specially designed program.
Mayor Mr Moghe, in his well researched speech talked about the energy situation in the state of Madhya Pradesh with particular reference to the gap in supply and demand. He emphasized on a more scientific and professional approach to lighting in public areas to prevent energy wastage. Mr Madhu Verma talked about the various projects undertaken by Indore Development Authority and how they are encouraging use of trendy and more efficient lighting equipment.
The inaugural session ended with the keynote address by Prof Sanjay Jain, Director MAEER’s MIT Institute of Design, Pune. He talked about the changing lighting scenario globally. The inaugural session was conducted by Mr Rajendra Raje, Co-convener of this National Workshop.
The first technical sessions included talk on lighting in the Public Areas. Mr Saumen Bhaumik from Philips India talked about the changes in the thought process in public area lighting. He talked about the master planning for lighting and how cities like Hyderabad have benefited from this approach. The second talk in the first technical session was on brightness management and was conducted by Mr Amar Mahajan from Wipro Lighting. He talked about the changing work environment in the offices forcing changes in the lighting schemes. He emphasized on how lighting controls can play a significant role in energy conservation in office lighting while providing adequate lighting for efficient and stress-free working. This technical session was conducted by Mr Bharat Rawlani, Organizing Secretary, National Workshop.
The second technical session was packed with many surprises. Perhaps for the first time ever, there was a session on role of lighting in the entertainment industry. Mr Sapan Narula, an expert on animation, photography and special effects had the audience spell bound with the uniqueness of his presentation. The second presentation of the second technical session was actually a master class on lighting. Mr S Chakraborty, Vice President Surya Roshni touched upon various aspects of lighting and emphasized on the need for a change in approach towards how we see lighting today. The session was conducted by Mr Anil Pundalik, Convener of the National Workshop.
The final technical session was conducted by Mr Sarang Bodhankar from Crompton Greaves on Mesopic Vision. He showed how this novel approach can actually result in reduction of the lighting levels in street lighting without any compromises on visibility. Dr Prakash Barjatia, Chairman-Mumbai State Centre-ISLE, and Director-MIT School of Energy & Lighting, Pune summed up the day’s events. He also talked about the need for more professional courses on lighting to create better lighting professionals to spread the knowledge on lighting for the betterment of society.
The workshop received whole-hearted support from the industry. While M/s Arya Filaments,Indore – manufacturer of Light Sources, Luminaires and Gears joined hands with this prestigious event as the main Sponsor, Philips India, Crompton Greaves, Wipro and Surya Roshni were the Co-sponsors of the event. The workshop also attracted participation from MIT School of Energy & Lighting, Pune as the Academic Partner, renowned Hindi daily Nai Dunia as the Media Partner and Hotel Fortune Landmark as the Hospitality Partner. An attractive and useful Souvenir was also published on this occasion.
The workshop was attended by more than 200 delegates and invitees that included engineers from industries, consultants, architects, interior designers as well as students from engineering colleges. The guests and the speakers were presented with mementoes. Architect Ms Deepti Vyas proposed the vote of thanks.
Indore Local Centre had also organized a Get-together in the evening in honour of GB Members and the Speakers who had come from various parts of the country, specially for this Workshop. Flute recital by renowned artist Mr Salil Datey was the highlight of the evening programme.
